Wedding Sign

My sister in law is getting married this summer. She told me that needed something to cover a random window at the wedding venue so we decided that I would make her a sign to cover it. She got her inspiration from here:

Using a cardboard display board from Hobby Lobby, some cardstock and my Cricut.... THIS massive baby was born:

Wedding Recap Part 2: Getting ready!

I was soooo super happy to get to spend some time getting ready with all the girls. Especially in grandma's pink bedroom where there is no mirror (genius!)

I did the kids hair. Fish thought it would be a great time to jack with my phone. Thanks child.

Rae pretty much ditched us to watch Spongebob or something.

A totally rocked her dress, since she LOVES dresses.

S wasn't forced to wear a dress since she was busy enough being my officiant and my photographer. THANK YOU!

 

I did my hair. It only took three tries and almost some tears, but I got er done.

FYI: when getting dressed... make sure the blinds are closed. I remembered when I was about half naked.

The boots were a hit and beat the heck out of heels for a backyard wedding!

The beautiful cake my Momma made! She used Duncan Hines chocolate marble cake mix and it was AMAZING. Thank you Mom!

The chair set up with the archway in my Grandpa's backyard. He did an excellent job mowing. (He wanted to know that someone noticed.)

Table set up! I used pinecones as placecard holders and hot glued the placecards in place inside them.

The kiddie bags acted as the kids placecards.

Escort cards! I cut the leave escort cards out with my cricuit and decorated clothespins to hold them onto twine that I strung between two porch railings. The "flowers" are made from newspaper and spray painted.

Table Numbers~ round two!

Well, since the whole dynamic of the wedding was changed, I decided to make a few things a little bit more country. One of those things were the table numbers.

Now we only invited 30 people, so we only need 4 tables. I found four country-ish pictures online, printed them off, put them on some cute scrapbook paper and added table numbers. I kind of heart them. :)

Glass Jar Laterns

Well, I finished another wedding project, since this WILL happen someday I'm sure. I have been saving glass jars from spaghetti sauce and alfredo sauce and those types of weird things and this weekend I put them to use in such an easy way!

This weekend I used some of that leftover twine to make hangers. I just tied them tightly under the lip of the jar and they are ready for packing at least.

I will be filling the bottoms of the jars with sand and battery powered candles to hang around the "reception area".

Weddin' Signs

So, I saw an idea of using barn wood to make signs for a wedding a long time ago, but my venue didn't really allow you to stick stuff in the ground, so I had let it go.... until now.

Since we have moved locations, I know that I can use them so I thought I would try a low cost approach.

I still had some cardboard left from my "R" project and cut up the rest of the box to make the signs. I painted them white, added letters and arrows that I cut out with the cricut on some white posterboard and then attached some wood dowels with hot glue. I doubled them up on the big sign since that one is a little bigger and will be by the highway. :)

Cupcake Stand!

I finally got around to decorating my cupcake stand this weekend. I ordered it from Saveoncrafts.com. The shipping was pretty quick (less than a week) and the price was great. However, the price for shipping was too high. (I can't remember what it was since this was like last month). This was still the best deal I found on a cupcake tree, so I'm pretty happy.

Assembly was easy as pie and decorating wasn't bad. It was a fun little project. (powered by Amp'd apparently?) Now I just have to figure out what kind of cupcakes and small cake for the top to make! Luckily, I have an awesome friend that is also cupcake crazy helping me. I'll let ya'll know what I find!

New Wedding Hair?

Last night my best friend and I went to a concert featuring a local band. While getting ready (and I was totally rushing) I had the urge to shrunch my hair. However, I had never tried it and decided that if I made my best friend late because I was having hair issues, well, I would just suck. So... I gave up for then, straightened my hair real quick and was ready two minutes before time to leave. Sigh.

However, today I thought I would give it a shot and I was so happy with the results! I started with damp hair and used a ton of moose to scrunch it up while hanging my head upside down. After I was done I carefully pulled some together on top to create a bump and held it in place with a little claw clip. I finished off with a bunch of hairspray (super windy day here). 

I think this is how my hair will end up for the wedding. My hair doesn't like to hold curls well from a curling iron and I have had many failed attempts in the past few months. This held all day in windy weather, in humidity and while I took a cat nap on the couch.

Place cards and kiddie bags!

Two more last minute to do's are done! I had some left over printable post cards from my map and mad libs projects. I folded them in half and covered one side of them in damask scrapbook paper. When I have all my r.s.v.p.'s I'll use printable labels to print off names and center them on the tent cards.

I also made goody bags for the kiddos! Inside will be their coloring books, crayons, bubbles, and some candy. Can't wait to throw them all together! :)

Renewal Vows

Last weekend, I finally got my wording written up for the ceremony. One of my best friends will be officiating the ceremony... since we are already legally married, we did not need anyone that is ordained. However, she's never done this kind of thing before so we had to write the wording from scratch.

Officiant: Friends and family we have been invited here today to witness a very special moment for Groom and Bride’s names, the reaffirmation of their wedding vows.

Escort Card Tree

I finally got my escort cards figured out!


I used my Cricut and cut out some hearts (1 3/4 inches). Punched holes in the hearts with a hole punch and tied some curling ribbon through the holes. I hung all the hearts on some branches that I picked up from Hobby Lobby. The branches are in a tall vase (what was my change jar... lol) with two bags of river rocks (Dollar Tree $1 each). 


When time gets closer and I have RSVP's I will write names on the hearts before I hang them on the tree. I think I will use a little bit of tape to position the hearts on the branches a little better so they are not sliding around.

Mad Libs!

Do you remember doing mad libs as a kid? I remember sitting in my seventh grade English class doing this.... the answers were always hillarious (to a 7th grader of course!) and I always looked forward to them. This is one of the cute ideas that I found online and just knew that I HAD to do.

I found the idea here and I just tweaked it a little. I designed it again in Microsoft PowerPoint and I printed these on printable postcards (I had a box just sitting in the closet, SCORE!)

Feel free to steal my wording. I kind of hate that our names are on it, so you can't just print and use it.... but I hope it helps!

I'll have these sitting out on the tables after the ceremony for guests to fill out while we are taking pictures to help pass the time. I made a few more flower pens to scatter on the tables so they can fill them out with somethin pretty. ;)

Mantle Decor for the wedding

Our venue has a very pretty stone fireplace that we will be exchanging our vows in front of, so I thought I would figure out a way to decorate it a bit. 

I picked up the frames at Dollar Tree for $1 each (duh), the light lanterns are from Family Dollar (i think $1-$2 each) and the vases are salt and pepper shakers. I just covered them in some damask paper. I used flowers I had left over from my first failed centerpiece idea. 

I decided today while going through everything that I'm going to try to get things a little more organized. The wedding is taking over my closet! So, I found a few boot shoeboxes and have started those organizing efforts. 

Everything for the mantle is wrapped up nicely in newspaper and I stuck a label on the box. I'll be printing off a copy of the mantle decor picture to stick on the front, so if someone else sets it up for me, they will know how I want it to be done. 

My candy buffet box is getting there too! 

So far I have pink candy canes, caramel Hershey's kisses (pink wrappers!) and cherry jelly hearts. I plan to get at least 3 more kinds of candy. I need to get all my jars together and see what else I need there. I feel so accomplished this weekend!

DIY signs

I love photoshop. GI got it for me last year for my birthday and I have used the hell of it since then. Making my table numbers was so easy, so I decided to use it for a couple of other things. 


Here is my candy buffet sign:

I printed it off as an 8 x 10 and I'll be putting it in a frame at the candy buffet table. 

I also made this for a photo prop:

This is for a photo op. I want to have a picture taken of us holding the sign to put on Thank You cards after the wedding. I printed it off as an 8 x 10 also!

Cartoon Character Table Numbers

Anyone that knows GI and I well, they know we are just a couple of big kids. When I started telling my mom all of our wedding plans she said "You're planning a wedding for a couple of kids!" And I had to laugh, because she is very right. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out table numbers, there are so many great ideas out there, but I needed something that suited us well.


That's when I came up with the idea for cartoon characters! What better way to mark the tables than cartoon character couples from our childhood?


I found a damask background online and used photo shop to add pictures that I found by googling and the table numbers. I made 10 seperate ones. We should actually only need 7, but I've been planning for 10 just in case we have some additions to the guest list. I had these printed off as 4 x 6 photos at shutterfly.com and I will be putting them in picture frames on the tables.

Pink and White Tissue Pomanders

Pomanders are another project that I thought I wouldn't do, even though they are pretty popular in the wedding world. However, the more I thought about them, the more I loved them. 


I didn't do a tutorial, there are so many online that I've read and they pretty much have it covered, so I'll just give you the basics. For directions just google tissue paper pomanders!


I used:
Hot pink and white tissue paper- approx. 1 1/2 packages per pomander
8 medium sized styrofoam balls- My mom picked up squares at Dollar Tree for $1 each, so I just cut off the corners to round them out, they worked perfectly!
Beading wire- (the kind you use for jewelry making, my label is missing, so I can't give you a gage!)
Hot glue gun
paperclips


I cut the tissue paper into equal squares. I cut the stack in half and then cut each of the stacks in half. 


I used three tissue papers for each flower. I left them in a stack and squeezed it in the middle and wrapped the wire around the middle. I twisted the wire together and trimmed the wire down so an inch was sticking out. Fluff up the "flower"  and secured them into the styrofoam ball using hot glue. (dang, now I wish I had done a tutorial, I'm sorry if this is hard to picture!)


I covered the balls with flowers and left one corner uncovered. I hot glued a paperclip into the open corner, leaving half of it out so I can run fishing wire through there when I hang them.  You can kinda see it there. 

Here were the first five, I kept running out of tissue paper, silly me, I thought one package each would cover them, but NO. Definitely 1.5 packages per ball. They were very easy to make but super time consuming. I was spending at least hour on each one. It was a great project to do while catching up on Netflix!


They turned out great though and they are hanging beautifully from a hook in the ceiling of my bedroom until the big day. Make sure to keep them out of direct sunlight so the colors don't fade!
