The many emotions of an Army Wife

It's amazing and a little bit scary the amount of tears this life can cause us to shed and how many emotions I can feel in a day.

I cry because I'm PROUD. I'm proud of my husband and so many men and women like him that make so many sacrifices so that we can live in this country.

I cry because I'm LONELY. I miss my husband so much and some nights I wonder if I will ever fall alseep without him by my side.

I cry because I'm AFRAID. Everytime I watch a movie or a television show or a news broadcast about a soldier not coming home, I'm scared to death that I will one day to have to face that news. And then pray to God to keep him safe for me.

I cry because I'm AMAZED. I'm amazed with myself for being strong and surviving on my own. I'm amazed with the love that we share, because it's strong enough to survive anything.

I cry because I'm HAPPY. I'm happy because I found that one person that makes me feel complete.

I cry because I'm EXCITED. I'm excited because in a little over 4 months I will get to be in his arms once again.

Come on time MOVE FASTER!

Marrying a soldier that's stationed overseas

Ok, when GI and I first started talking about getting married, I did what every girl does.. I started Googling. But, instead of dresses, cakes and flowers and I was trying to figure out how hard it was going to be to marry him while he is stationed in another country.

What I found stressed me out. The only thing I could find is that it is complicated. I read that there is a ton of paperwork involved, I read that he would have to go speak to the Chaplain, and we would have to do counseling prior to getting married. I read that it can take months and months of preparation to get it done. When I relayed my research to G.I. he suggested that maybe we should wait until after he is stationed in the states.

Well, that was kind of a let down, but I didn't want to make marrying me hell for him (you're supposed to save that for after, right? KIDDING!)

Anyway, he asked his buddies that are there with him and then checked with his superiors. Yeah, we and Google were way off.

Nothing out of the ordinary had to be done. We went to a justice of the peace, signed the license, said our vows and TADA it was done!

There is a lot of paperwork involved, but as spouses, we have nothing to do with that. This is paperwork that he has to complete to enroll you in DEERS and to start your Tri-care, and there are people to help him with the mountain of papers.

What my GI needed from me:
*Birth Certificate
*S.S. card
*Marriage License
*Current insurance information

If he can not enroll you in DEERS while he is in the states, make sure to get CERTIFIED copies of all of your identification to send with him. They must have the original or certified copies and you do not want to be stuck without your only copies while he has them, you'll need them to change your name!

I honestly hoped this saves someone some stress. I know if I had been able to find it then things would have been less confusing!

The orgin of Taps

Got this in an email for one of my favorite Army Wives today and thought it was very interesting! Just wanted to pass it along cuz you might like it too!

We in the United States have all heard the haunting song, 'Taps...' It's the song that gives us the lump in our throats and usually tears in our eyes.

But, do you know the story behind the song? If not, I think you will be interested to find out about its humble beginnings.

Reportedly, it all began in 1862 during the Civil War, when Union Army Captain Robert Elli was with his men near Harrison's Landing in Virginia . The Confederate Army was on the other side of the narrow strip of land.
During the night, Captain Elli heard the moans of a soldier who lay severely wounded on the field. Not knowing if it was a Union or Confederate soldier, the Captain decided to risk his life and bring the stricken man back for medical attention. Crawling on his stomach through the gunfire, the Captain reached the stricken soldier and began pulling him toward his encampment..

When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he discovered it was actually a Confederate soldier, but the soldier was dead.

The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his breath and went numb with shock. In the dim light, he saw the face of the soldier. It was his own son. The boy had been studying music in the South when the war broke out.. Without telling his father, the boy enlisted in the Confederate Army.

The following morning, heartbroken, the father asked permission of his superiors to give his son a full military burial, despite his enemy status. His request was only partially granted.

The Captain had asked if he could have a group of Army band members play a funeral dirge for his son at the funeral.

The request was turned down since the soldier was a Confederate.

But, out of respect for the father, they did say they could give him only one musician.

The Captain chose a bugler. He asked the bugler to play a series of musical notes he had found on a piece of paper in the pocket of the dead youth's uniform.

This wish was granted.

The haunting melody, we now know as 'Taps' used at military funerals was born.

The words are:

Day is done.

Gone the sun.

From the lakes

From the hills.

From the sky.

All is well..

Safely rest.

God is nigh.

Fading light.

Dims the sight.

And a star.

Gems the sky.

Gleaming bright.

From afar.

Drawing nigh.

Falls the night.

Thanks and praise.

For our days.

Neath the sun

Neath the stars.

Neath the sky

As we go..

This we know.

God is nigh

More Military poems/sayings!

One of my Military Wife friends sent me a few poems and sayings this week! Just wanted to share! These would work for changing the word "wife" to girlfriend on any of them!

Military Wife Prayer

"Give me greatness of heart to see the difference between duty and his love for me. Give me understanding so that I may know, that when duty calls he must go. Give me a task to do each day, to fill the time when he's away. Give me the strength to carry on, when he's working late or must be gone. Give me wisdom to get me through, when I'm not sure what to do. And when he's in foreign lands, Lord, keep him safe in your hands!"

"It takes a STRONG woman to love a Military man!!"

I'm not the perfect army wife. The deployments sometimes get to me, and there are times when nothing seems to go right when he is gone. I think about how wonderful it would be to have my soldier home all the time. There are times when he is home I push him away so it doesn't hurt so bad when he leaves again. At night I cry cause i can no longer handle trying to stay strong. There are times when I feel like walking away from this life I built, but when I stop and think about it... I remember just how much I love my man and I am proud to be an army wife.

Military Love- The greatest love ever known of felt. The weight of this love we carry, some women can not grasp, while other women would die trying. We love our men just like you do.. but unlike you with our love we have to know pain, seperation and yes, even death. That's why we love harder, are stronger and proud to be the military wife.

Here's a GREAT one. But grab your kleenex!

I just watched my entire world walk away. My life is in thousands of pieces and I am not sure how to put it back together. I am lost. I am forced to live without you and I am not sure how. The nights pass and I wake up alone. The days go by and I wait for you to come home. I sometimes think that you will walk through the door. I wait for the phone and save every email. When I miss your phone calls, I lose it. I savor every second that I hear your voice on the other line. I try and hold it in so that you don’t know that I am losing it. I try to be your strength and be your support. I have to stay strong to make your job easier. I go through each day and see couples together. It makes me miss you even more for that used to be us. I try and hold it in so no one can see I am losing it. I miss your smile. I miss your gentle touch. I miss the way you could make even the worst day better. I miss your voice. I miss the way you held me. I miss the way you kissed me. I miss the way you look at me. I JUST MISS YOU!! As the days go on, this gets easier. My life seems to get back to normal after awhile. I have my days where I feel like life can’t go on until you are back in my arms. I wonder what you are thinking and where you are. What are you doing and are you thinking of me? Do you miss me the way I miss you? Are you keeping it together or falling apart? I count down the days until I get to see you again. Funny how a calendar can make you feel better. I think about the first time I get to see you. The first time I get to touch you, the first kiss, and the first hug. Those are the thoughts that keep me going!!!
