Spring Cleaning for cash on Facebook.

Happy Thursday evening my beautiful readers! I hope everyone is staying warm! I, on the other hand, am freezing my booty off on this super cold Oklahoma night! But, it's ok. I live in a bi-polar state, so it'll be 60 degrees by Sunday.

It's been a busy but productive couple of weeks for me! I have been bit by the Spring Cleaning bug, yes... I know it's not Spring yet, but I promise I was outside in a T-shirt and jeans when the bug hit me.  Based on the inch of ice laying on my front lawn, I'd say I was tricked. Pretty dirty if you ask me.

Anyway, once the bug hit I spent a good 6 hours in Fish's room cleaning to make room for all of her new Christmas and birthday gifts. We started in one corner of the room and went through EVERYTHING from clothes to shoes to toys to purses. The end result was 4 trash bags worth of stuff to sort.

Since that day I have removed 4 more bags of clothes from mine and Rae's closets. And much more that needs to be done!

Usually I would try to save things up for a garage sale during the summer. During which garage sale I would wake up at 6 am on a Saturday, borrow tables from my family, make signs, set my crap all over my yard, and beg people on Facebook to come buy my stuff while getting a sunburn. Only to give up and donate a truckload of stuff at the end of the day.

Last year I made a whopping $35. $35 for 8 hours of work is $4.38/hr. I made more than that when I worked at McDonald's in high school, 12 years ago. AND I got a free lunch back then. Whatever.

Thanks to technology I will be a yard sale victim no more. My community has a local Classified Ad page on Facebook, and I take a lot of advantage of that Facebook Group.

I actually had enough stuff that I made an online yard sale page. All of my stuff for sale is listed on there with prices and pictures. When something sells I can delete it and keep going on.

I am donating things after they are listed for 2 weeks so they aren't hanging around the house.

This has prompted me to do a lot of Spring Cleaning! I have still donated quite a bit to the thrift store,  but I did manage to pocket an extra $100 this month.

Here are the general rules of the classified group:

1. You are allowed 10 posts on the site at one time. You may post items for sale, free, trade, for that you are wanting to purchase.

2. You are allowed to bump your ad's 3 times per day. Bumping an ad means that you comment on your ad so it is moved to the top of the page. (This is helpful on our site since we have over 7,000 members, posts get buried throughout the day.)

3. If someone posts an offer or a question on an item you must respond to them before accepting someone else's offer.

4. If you say you want an item, you must set an time to pick it up within the next few days.

And the rest are basically common sense. Don't trash talk, don't talk badly about items other people have for sale, etc. There are Administrators that help run the site and keep everyone in line.

Also, If you are meeting someone regarding an online transaction be sure to meet in a busy public place!

Now go check Facebook and see if your town has a local sales page. If you don't, think about building a group on your own! It's addictive, it's cheap and it's fun.

Or... you can make one of these signs and sit on your porch all day.

(Saw this picture on Facebook, but if it's yours let me know, I'll be sure to credit you!)

I've been in several of these groups for a while now, and there have been some good experiences and some bad ones too. I did a lot of yard sales last year, and we made pretty good money... but the sites like Facebook do make it a lot easier!
